Guandan rules in brief

  • Players and cards: 4 players in 2 teams, partners sit opposite. 108 cards (two 52-card decks plus 4 jokers), 27 cards each.
  • Turns: the leader plays any legal combination; each next player must beat it with a higher combination of the same type, or a bomb, or pass. When the other three pass, the last player to play leads again.
  • Combinations: single, pair, triple, full house (3+2), straight (5 in a row), tube (3 consecutive pairs) and plate (2 consecutive triples).
  • Bombs beat any normal combination. From lowest to highest: 4 of a kind, 5 of a kind, straight flush, 6 to 10 of a kind, and four jokers (the highest).
  • Level cards and wilds: the current level's rank sits above the Ace, and the two level cards in hearts are wild - they can stand in for any card except a joker.
  • Scoring: if your team finishes 1st and 2nd you go up 3 levels, 1st and 3rd up 2 levels, 1st and 4th up 1 level. Losers pay tribute (their highest card) to the winners before the next deal.
  • Winning: reach Ace and then win a hand at Ace with your team finishing 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd.
